Dr Mark Brimble appointed acting managing director of FASEA

The Chair of the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority Limited, Catherine Walter AM, today announced the appointment of Dr Mark Brimble to the role of acting managing director.

The appointment augments the foundation efforts of Dr Deen Sanders and the Board to build a strong underpinning process, timeline and detail for the implementation of Standards required under the FASEA remit.

Dr Brimble will lead FASEA in an acting MD role as it moves closer to the implementation phase of its process – and executing the ‘feedback and build’ stage of the work programme.

“On behalf of the Board, we are confident Dr Brimble’s acting managing directorship will help us to build on the platform designed by standards expert Dr Sanders and enable the Board to recruit a suitably qualified Chief Executive Officer for the next important phase,” said Ms Walter.

“Today’s announcement opens the way for Dr Sanders to step down from his current role as CEO to continue his long-standing career in professional standards, and we wish him well.

“Dr Brimble brings a new skill set, and proven leadership capability in higher education and financial services. Engagement beyond the technical, principles-based platform is a critical focus for the Board, especially as we move into this next phase,” Ms Walter said.

Dr Brimble has worked within the finance and education sectors for the past 17 years and will continue as Professor of Finance and Financial Planning in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at Griffith Business School.

“I thank the FASEA Board for this opportunity to continue the vital task of improving public confidence and trust in the financial advice sector,” Dr Brimble said.

“It is essential as we move into the implementation phase of FASEA’s work to continue to execute the critical planning, consultations and rollout process established by the Authority.”

Dr Brimble will commence his role as acting managing director for FASEA on 23 April 2018 and will remain in the position until 31 July 2018.

The Board has commenced a recruitment process through executive search firm Egon Zehnder to secure a permanent Chief Executive Officer.

“FASEA is seeking a credentialed leader with superior communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to build a high-performing team, with strong implementation and strategic execution capability. Naturally, understanding of the Australian financial services ecosystem and its impact – both positively and negatively – on Australian consumers would be beneficial,” Ms Walter said.
